Time Away From Everything

Away from everythingI spent my last week of vacation in 2013 in the Poconos in north-eastern Pennsylvania at the end of October. After a grueling year of long days and nights behind the wheel of a big rig, I just wanted to get away and have some time away from everything. I wasn’t disappointed. The colors of nature were spectacular and I couldn’t have asked for better weather.

I planned to visit Bushkill falls to experiment with some waterfall photography. I read some great tips about photographing waterfalls and had hopes to get some great shots that I could print and display in my home. That is, until I got out into nature and set up my tripod. Or actually, I attempted to set up my tripod. The little attachment that connects the camera to the tripod was missing!

Not one to waste the trip, I did the best I could to keep the camera still, and I think I still got some great shots. Lighting is the biggest challenge in any photography, but especially with moving water, bright sun, and lots of shadow areas.

The falls were beautiful, but the large falls were just too big for me to get a decent exposure of the whole waterfall in one shot. Out of several shots, experimenting with the aperture and shutter speed and getting lots of shots that were underexposed on the shady side and overexposed on the sunny side, I was finally able to get a decently exposed shot of the big falls:

?????????????????????

I did get some neat nature shots in other areas and at other times during that vacation.

?????????????????????

?????????????????????

Now that I have started blogging (this is my very first blog), I would really appreciate feedback.

My plans are to post a lot of my own opinions and observations about a variety of topics, including, but not limited to, driving, respect and responsibility, videography and photography, regrettable failures and satisfying successes. I invite any constructive criticism, suggestions, and recommendations.

I don’t intend to blog only about photography and videography, but thought these photos would be a good way for me to start blogging.

Thanx for reading my post!
